Delhi Solar Panel Scheme 2026

Delhi Solar Panel Scheme 2026

Delhi Solar Panel Scheme 2026: Free 3 kW Rooftop Solar for Homes

Delhi residents can now get a rooftop solar system installed without paying anything upfront. The new Delhi solar scheme gives eligible households a large government subsidy, a 3 kW solar system at zero upfront cost and five years of free maintenance. The government aims to install rooftop solar on about 2.3 lakh homes by March 2027, so this is a big opportunity for people across the city.

You probably still have a few questions. Who qualifies? How much will you really save? And how do you apply? This guide answers all three.

What Is the Delhi Solar Panel Scheme?

The scheme is part of PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, the central government's programme to encourage rooftop solar on homes. The Delhi government adds its own subsidy on top of the central one.

Earlier, Delhi offered a state subsidy of ₹10,000 per kW, up to ₹30,000 for a 3 kW system. But the Chief Minister admitted that the central scheme had not picked up fast enough in the city. So on 1 September 2026, the Delhi cabinet approved the second amendment to the Delhi Solar Energy Policy, 2023, which raised the state subsidy sharply. This is the policy that applies now.

Who Can Apply?

Here are the main conditions:

  • You live in Delhi and have a domestic electricity connection.
  • Your home uses an average of up to 400 units of electricity a month.
  • You have an open, shadow-free roof.
  • You have not taken a rooftop solar subsidy before.

The last point is important. The subsidy is only for first-time applicants, so if you or your family have already received a solar subsidy, check with your power company before applying.

“Free” also comes with one condition: the system has to fit on your roof.

How Evaska Energy Can Help

Registration for the free scheme is done online through the Delhi government's solar portal. But not every home fits the scheme. If your home uses more than 400 units a month, needs a bigger system, or you are planning solar for a housing society or business, Evaska Energy can help. We check your roof, suggest the right system size, and handle the installation and paperwork from start to finish.

Scheme for  Housing Societies

Not everyone has a roof of their own. Many Delhi residents live in flats and group housing societies, and the new policy covers them too.

The subsidy for solar on common areas such as clubhouses, parking areas and lifts has gone up from ₹2,000 per kW to ₹11,000 per kW. That is a big jump. If your RWA has been thinking about solar to cut the society's common-area bills, bring it up at the next meeting.

There is also an extra benefit for small users. Households using 0 to 200 units a month will get an additional incentive if they reduce the electricity they draw from the grid after installing solar.

Why It Makes Sense

  • Lower bills. Your panels generate power through the day, so you draw less electricity from the grid. A 3 kW system can produce about 12 units on a sunny day, though this varies by season.
  • Five years of free maintenance. The government says authorised vendors will maintain the system for five years. This removes one of the biggest worries about solar: repair costs.
  • Long life. Solar panels usually last 25 to 30 years. Since eligible households pay nothing upfront, the savings start from the first month.
  • Cleaner air. Delhi's air quality drops sharply every winter. More solar means less dependence on coal-based power plants. One roof won't change much, but lakhs of roofs can.
  • Your existing electricity subsidy stays. The government has said eligible consumers will keep their current electricity subsidy. Solar does not replace it.

Things to Keep in Mind Before You Apply

  • Check the final rules. The details here are based on government announcements and news reports. Read the official portal for the final terms before you sign anything.
  • Use only authorised vendors for the free scheme. Avoid any agent who asks for cash on the side or claims they can “arrange” the subsidy for a fee.
  • Expect some waiting. In a scheme this large, delays are likely at stages such as site visits, meter replacement and paperwork. Experts have also pointed out that rolling it out may take time.
  • Don't oversize your system. For an average home, a 3 kW system is enough. If your home uses more than 400 units a month, you may not qualify for the free offer. If you need a bigger system, read our guides on the 5 kW solar system and the 8 kW solar system.

Check who owns the roof. If you are a tenant, talk to your landlord first. If you live in a shared building, you will most likely need your society's approval.

Is the Delhi Solar Scheme Worth It?

The Delhi solar panel scheme is one of the best solar offers available right now. With a combined subsidy of up to ₹1.56 lakh, a government top-up for the remaining cost and five years of free maintenance, eligible homes can switch to solar at almost no cost.
