Why Now Is the Best Time to Install Rooftop Solar Panels in Delhi
In a city such as Delhi, where the sun is on fire most of the year and electricity bills never get a vacation, going rooftop solar has always seemed like a good idea. However, with a massive policy change in 2025, it has become a no-brainer.
The Delhi government by the scheme PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana declared that on May 21, 2025, it would provide a direct 3 kW rooftop solar panel subsidy of 78,000 and an additional 30,000 which would provide a strong incentive to homeowners and small business owners to finally make the switch. This is not just another government initiative but it is a game changer to thousands of households in the capital. This is the time to go solar, especially when you have been waiting to do so.
What is PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana Means to You
According to the new policy - PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, the Delhi Cabinet will be offering a fixed 78,000 INR subsidy to those households that will install rooftop solar systems with a capacity of up to 3 kW. This subsidy is direct, fixed and time sensitive unlike the previous central government schemes that were percent reimbursement based and were usually subject to long approval chains. This is how it works:
- A system of 3 kW usually has a cost of about 1.5-1.7 lakhs
- Your net cost is then reduced to 80 - 90 Thousand with the subsidy.
- How much do you save a month on electricity? Between 2,000Rs. to 3,000Rs.
- Your payback? Only 4-5 years
It is simple math and it is on your side.
Solar is a No-Brainer in Delhi due to High Tariffs
This is a fact you learn when you stay in Delhi: electricity is not cheap. The residential tariffs are usually between 6 to 8 rupees per unit and the bills during summer are painful. But what will happen when your rooftop will save you 25,000-35,000 a year?
That’s exactly what rooftop solar delivers. And with its new monocrystalline panels, compact inverters and improved performance in partial shade, systems are more powerful and space efficient than ever.
Our solar systems are designed to be the most efficient in providing you with the best output on the first day itself at Evaska Energy. We customize every solar installation to your budget, energy usage and the area of your roof.
Delhi’s Rooftops Are Solar-Ready
South Extension terraces to Janakpuri bungalows, the urban design of Delhi is quite suitable to the use of solar. The following is available to many homes:
- Rooftops that are flat and without shadows
- 6.5 to 5.5 hours of the sun per day
- Net metering good grid infrastructure
- Neighbourhoods that minimize obstruction in low-rise buildings
You may be staying in a stand-alone house or a high rise society, but there are now flexible mounting systems which make solar installation quick, safe, and long lasting even when it comes to previously old rooftops.
Net Metering = Less Paying and Greater Control
According to the Net Metering Policy in Delhi, the surplus electricity in your solar system is injected into the grid. This excess credit is what you accrue and that is what is used to offset your monthly bill. Example:
- You have a solar system with 350 units
- The consumption in your household is 300 units
- 50 units are injected into the grid and credited
- Your bill? Perhaps nothing- or even a positive balance
This will make your roof top a mini power house that not only supplies your house but also the city. You don't have to worry about anything at Evaska Energy because we do all the paperwork involved in net metering including the application and installation.
